Why should I participate in Work for the Dole or Community Work?
Work for the Dole and Community Work have many benefits for participants including:
- Exposure to, and development of, skills in demand;
- Working in a team environment;
- Networking and demonstrating your abilities to potential employers;
- Gaining valuable work experience and skills;
- Receiving references from your Work for the Dole supervisor;
- Assisting to improve your local community; and
- Receiving up to $800 worth of training credits once you have completed your Work for the Dole project.
What Work for the Dole activities can I be involved in?
MatchWorks has a range of activities available to job seekers that address skill shortages in the local area. Activities can include but are not limited to:
- Caring for people;
- Caring for the environment;
- Caring for the community; and
- Caring for our heritage.

I work some casual hours, what if I get called into work or for a job interview?
Paid employment and job interviews are a priority for all job seekers. If you return to your Work for the Dole project you will need to supply evidence to show that you have been working or attended an interview.
How do I get to my Work for the Dole activity?
You can use your own or public transport. All Work for the Dole participants will receive an allowance ($20.80 a fortnight), additional to their regular benefit to assist with transport and lunch expenses.
